Batman Returns

Batman Returns
1992, PG-13
Directed by Tim Burton
Written by Daniel Waters & Sam Hamm
Screenplay by Daniel Waters

Tim Burton follows up his 1989 Batman film with this Christmas-themed sequel.  Batman Returns focuses on two new villains from his rogue’s gallery, The Penguin and Catwoman, and uses their carnival sideshow qualities to make a film about freaks and fetishism.  With Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer playing those roles, respectively, the cast is further expanded by adding Christopher Walken as Max Shreck—an evil CEO.  Without Jack Nicholson to level out the camp quality of the original film, the franchise begins its three-film slide towards total asininity.
